Connect Asana to Infograph

What it brings in: workspaces, users, projects, tags, tasks and 3 more.

What you need

  • An Asana account. Infograph reads with your account's access, so it sees the projects and tasks you can see in Asana.

Steps

  1. Open the developer console

In Asana, click your profile picture at the top right, choose My settings, then the Apps tab, and Manage developer apps. Or go straight to app.asana.com/0/my-apps.

  2. Create a personal access token

Under Personal access tokens, click Create new token, name it Infograph and agree to the terms. Copy the token Asana shows. Asana shows it only once.

  3. Paste it in Infograph and choose your tables

Open Asana in Infograph, paste the token into Personal access token and press Connect. Each workspace you belong to gets its own set of tables, named after it. Pick the ones you want and Infograph starts loading them.

What it syncs

Each becomes a table in Infolake that you can chart, report on or ask about. You choose which to sync.

Workspacesworkspaces

The workspaces and organisations your account belongs to. Every other table is per workspace.

Ask: “Which workspaces does this account belong to?”

Usersusers

The people in the workspace, with their name and email. Turns the assignee on each task into a name.

Ask: “Who has the most incomplete tasks assigned to them?”

Projectsprojects

Every project in the workspace, with its owner, team, status, dates and whether it is archived.

Ask: “Which projects are overdue on their due date?”

Tagstags

The tags used in the workspace, with their names and colours.

Ask: “Which tags are on the most open tasks?”

Taskstasks

Every task in each project, with its assignee, section, due date, completion, followers, dependencies and custom fields. The base for workload and delivery dashboards.

Ask: “How many tasks did each person complete each week this quarter?”

Show all 8 tables
Sectionssections

The sections of each project, such as the columns of a board. Groups tasks by stage of work.

Ask: “How many open tasks are in each section of our main project?”

Teamsteams

The teams in the workspace, with their names and descriptions. Groups projects by team.

Ask: “Which team has the most open projects?”

Custom fieldscustom_fields

The custom fields set up in the workspace, with their type and options. Explains the custom values on each task.

Ask: “Which custom fields do we use on tasks?”

Troubleshooting

Each entry is the message Infograph shows when a connection fails. Open it for the fix.

Those credentials were not accepted.

Asana did not accept the token. Check you copied all of it. A token stops working when it is deleted in the developer console or its user is deactivated: create a new one, open the connection in Infograph, choose Edit configuration and paste it.

Common problems

These happen in Asana itself, where Infograph cannot see them.

A project or task is missing

The token reads what its user can see. Projects and tasks private to other people are not synced. Connect with the token of someone who can see them, or ask to be added to the project.

Subtasks are not in Tasks

Tasks holds each project's own tasks. Asana lists subtasks separately, and they are not synced yet.

A deleted task is still in Tasks

Asana does not list deleted tasks, so a task deleted after it was synced keeps its last row. A task moved to another project shows under its new project on the next sync.
