Connect Chargebee to Infograph
What it brings in: customers, subscriptions, invoices, credit notes, transactions and 9 more.
What you need
- A Chargebee site, and a Chargebee user who can create API keys (an admin, or a role with API key access).
- Your site name, the part before .chargebee.com in your Chargebee address.
Steps
Open API keys in Chargebee
In Chargebee, open Settings, then Configure Chargebee, then API Keys and Webhooks, and the API Keys tab. Check you are on your live site, not its test site, unless you want test data.
Create a read-only key
Click Add API Key and choose Read-Only Key, with access to all data. Name it Infograph and create it. A read-only key cannot change anything in Chargebee.
Copy the key
Copy the key Chargebee shows. A live key starts live_, a test site's key starts test_.
Paste it in Infograph and choose your tables
Open Chargebee in Infograph, type your site name into Site and paste the key into API key, then press Connect. Pick the tables you want and Infograph starts loading them, with their full history.
What it syncs
Each becomes a table in Infolake that you can chart, report on or ask about. You choose which to sync.
- Customers
customers Every customer, with their name, email, company, payment status and when they were created. Ties every subscription, invoice and payment to who pays.
Ask: “How many new customers did we add each month this year?”
- Subscriptions
subscriptions Every subscription, cancelled ones included, with its customer, status, plan or items, billing period, MRR and the dates it started, renews or ended. The base for MRR and churn.
Ask: “What was our monthly churn rate over the last six months?”
- Invoices
invoices Every invoice, with its customer, status, total, amount paid and due, tax and dates, plus each amount as a decimal in its currency. Shows billed revenue and what is still unpaid.
Ask: “Which invoices are overdue, and how much is outstanding?”
- Credit notes
credit_notes Every credit note, with its invoice, reason, total and status. Shows money given back as credit or refunds.
Ask: “How much did we credit customers last quarter, and why?”
- Transactions
transactions Every payment and refund, with its amount, status, gateway and the invoices it settles. Card numbers are masked by Chargebee. Shows what was actually collected.
Ask: “How many payments failed each week last month?”
Show all 14 tables
- Quotes
quotes Every quote, with its customer, status, total and the dates it was sent and is valid until. Shows deals in the pipeline before they turn into subscriptions.
Ask: “How many quotes did we send last quarter, and how many were accepted?”
- Unbilled charges
unbilled_charges Charges recorded but not yet invoiced, with the customer, amount and period. They leave this table once they are invoiced.
Ask: “How much is waiting to be invoiced right now?”
- Items
items The plans, addons and charges you sell, on Product Catalog 2.0, with their name, type and status. Lets you group revenue by what was sold.
Ask: “Which plans bring in the most revenue?”
- Item prices
item_prices The prices set on each item, with the amount, currency and billing period. Explains what each subscription costs.
Ask: “How many subscriptions are on each price of our main plan?”
- Item families
item_families The families your items are grouped into, on Product Catalog 2.0. Groups plans and addons by product line.
Ask: “How much revenue does each product family bring in?”
- Plans
plans The plans you sell, on a Product Catalog 1.0 site, with their price, currency and billing period.
Ask: “How many active subscriptions are on each plan?”
- Addons
addons The addons you sell, on a Product Catalog 1.0 site, with their price and how they are charged.
Ask: “Which addons are most popular?”
- Coupons
coupons Every coupon, with its discount, how it applies and how many times it has been redeemed.
Ask: “Which coupons have been used the most this year?”
- Events
events Chargebee's event log, one row per thing that happened (a subscription created, a payment failed, a plan changed), with when and what changed. Card details are left out.
Ask: “How many subscriptions were cancelled each week this quarter?”
Troubleshooting
Each entry is the message Infograph shows when a connection fails. Open it for the fix.
Those credentials were not accepted.
Chargebee did not accept the site and key together. Check the site is only the name before .chargebee.com, and that you copied all of the key. A key from your test site works only with the test site's name (it usually ends in -test), and a live key only with the live one. A key that was deleted or disabled in Chargebee stops working too: create a new read-only key, open the connection in Infograph, choose Edit configuration and paste it.
Common problems
These happen in Chargebee itself, where Infograph cannot see them.
The tables hold test data
A test site has its own name and its own keys, and holds none of your live customers. Connect again with your live site's name and a key created on the live site.
Plans and addons, or items and item prices
Chargebee has two product catalogs. A site on Product Catalog 2.0, the default since 2021, syncs items, item prices and item families. An older site on Product Catalog 1.0 syncs plans and addons instead. Infograph offers whichever your site has.
A table stops for a minute
Chargebee limits how many requests a key may make each minute. When a large first load reaches it, Infograph waits and carries on, so the first sync of a big site can take a while.
