Connect Google Search Console to Infograph

What it brings in: performance by date, performance by query, performance by page, performance by country, performance by device and 4 more.

What you need

  • A verified property in Google Search Console, either a domain or a URL prefix.
  • A Google account that is an owner, full user or restricted user of the property.

Steps

  1. Open Google Search Console in Infograph

Choose Google Search Console and press Connect Google Search Console. A Google sign-in window opens.

    Continue to Google Search Console
  2. Sign in and allow access

Sign in with the Google account that can see your property, then press Allow. Infograph only reads your search data and sitemaps. It cannot change your property.

  3. Pick the sites and reports to sync

Infograph lists every property your account can see, with a set of reports for each, named like example.com / Performance by query. Pick the ones you want and Infograph loads up to the last 16 months, which is all the history Search Console holds, then keeps them up to date.

What it syncs

Each becomes a table in Infolake that you can chart, report on or ask about. You choose which to sync.

Performance by dateperformance_by_date

Your site's web search totals per day, with clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position. The headline trend for organic search.

Ask: “How have our clicks from Google search changed over the last six months?”

Performance by queryperformance_by_query

The searches people used to find your site, per day, with clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position. Shows what people search for and where you rank.

Ask: “Which queries get lots of impressions but few clicks?”

Performance by pageperformance_by_page

Each page of your site, per day, with clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position in search. Shows which pages bring in search traffic.

Ask: “Which pages lost the most search clicks compared with last month?”

Performance by countryperformance_by_country

Search clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position per country per day. Shows where your search audience is.

Ask: “Which countries send us the most clicks from Google?”

Performance by deviceperformance_by_device

Search clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position per device (desktop, mobile, tablet) per day. Shows how mobile search compares with desktop.

Ask: “Is our average position worse on mobile than on desktop?”

Show all 9 tables
Performance by query and pageperformance_by_query_page

Each search and the page that showed for it, per day, with clicks, impressions, click-through rate and position. Shows which page ranks for which search.

Ask: “Which queries send people to more than one of our pages?”

Performance by search appearanceperformance_by_search_appearance

Search results per day by how your pages appeared, such as rich results or videos, with clicks, impressions, click-through rate and position. Shows whether special result types pay off.

Ask: “Do our rich results get a higher click-through rate than plain ones?”

Performance by search typeperformance_by_search_type

Daily clicks, impressions and click-through rate for each kind of Google search, web, image, video, news and Discover. The only place Discover and News traffic shows up.

Ask: “How much of our Google traffic comes from Discover?”

Sitemapssitemaps

The sitemaps submitted for your site, with when each was last submitted and read by Google, its errors and warnings, and how many URLs it lists. Shows whether Google can read your sitemaps.

Ask: “Do any of our sitemaps have errors?”

Troubleshooting

Each entry is the message Infograph shows when a connection fails. Open it for the fix.

Access was not allowed, so nothing was connected. Connect again and choose Allow.

The sign-in was answered with Cancel or Deny, so nothing was connected and Infograph holds no access. Press Connect again and choose Allow. Infograph uses the access only to read and sync your data.

Your account cannot read this data. Ask an admin of the account for access, then connect again.

Search Console refused your account access to the property. Ask an owner of the property to add your Google account as a full or restricted user, in Settings, then Users and permissions, then connect again. If you lost access to a property on purpose, remove its reports from the connection instead.

Infograph's access was removed or has expired. Re-authenticate to resume syncing.

Infograph can no longer use your Google sign-in. Someone may have removed Infograph's access in your Google Account, your password changed, or your organisation's admin blocked the app. It also shows when Google keeps refusing a property you no longer have access to. Press Re-authenticate, sign in with the same Google account and press Allow.

Common problems

These happen in Google Search Console itself, where Infograph cannot see them.

A site is missing from the list

Infograph lists only the properties your account has a permission on and that are verified. An associate, such as a linked Merchant Center account, cannot read search data, so its properties do not appear. Check you signed in with the right Google account and that it is listed in the property's Users and permissions.

You signed in with the wrong Google account

If you use several Google accounts, the sign-in window may pick one that cannot see your property. Connect again and choose the account that can.

Your organisation blocks the app

If Google says access is blocked or the app is not approved, your Google Workspace admin restricts third-party apps. Ask them to mark Infograph as Trusted in the Admin console, under Security, Access and data control, API controls, Manage App Access.
