Connect Neon to Infograph
What it brings in: Every table and view the user can read.
What you need
- A Neon project, and access to its Console.
- The password of the role you will connect as, or permission to create a new role.
Your connection string
Each part is one thing you fill in, and each can fail on its own.
postgresql://[user]user: fix for "The username or password was not accepted.":[password]password: fix for "The username or password was not accepted."@[endpoint-id].[region].aws.neon.techhost: fix for "We couldn't find that host. Check the host name, then try again."/[dbname]database: fix for "That database does not exist on this server."?sslmode=requireSteps
Create a read-only user (optional)
Infograph only reads. To give it its own user, run this in the Neon SQL Editor with your own password and database name, then use that user in the string.
CREATE USER infograph WITH PASSWORD '[strong-password]'; GRANT CONNECT ON DATABASE [database] TO infograph; GRANT USAGE ON SCHEMA public TO infograph; GRANT SELECT ON ALL TABLES IN SCHEMA public TO infograph; ALTER DEFAULT PRIVILEGES IN SCHEMA public GRANT SELECT ON TABLES TO infograph;Open Connect in the Neon Console
Open your project and click Connect. The Connect to your branch dialog opens.
Turn off Connection pooling
The pooled connection breaks syncing. Turn the Connection pooling toggle off, so the host no longer contains -pooler.
Copy the connection string
Copy the string with your role's password in it. Its host starts with ep- and ends in .aws.neon.tech.
postgresql://[user]:[password]@[endpoint-id].[region].aws.neon.tech/[dbname]?sslmode=requirePaste it in Infograph and choose your tables
Open Neon in Infograph, paste the string and press Connect. Pick the tables you want and Infograph starts loading them.
Allow 51.222.152.247 through your firewall so Infograph can connect.

Troubleshooting
Each entry is the message Infograph shows when a connection fails. Open it for the fix.
This host is not reachable from Infograph. Use your database's public address.
Copy the string from Connect in the Neon Console again. Its host ends in .aws.neon.tech.
We couldn't find that host. Check the host name, then try again.
Copy the host from the Connect dialog rather than typing it. It starts with ep- and includes your region.
The host refused the connection. Check the port, and that your database accepts connections from Infograph's address.
If your project uses IP Allow (Settings, Networking, on the Scale plan), add 51.222.152.247. Otherwise copy the string again with Connection pooling turned off.
The server closed the connection. Check that it allows Infograph's address, and whether it requires an encrypted connection.
The server answered, then hung up before Infograph could sign in. Check it allows 51.222.152.247: some hosts close the connection rather than refuse it. If the server accepts only encrypted connections, set SSL Mode to Require under Advanced.
The host did not answer in time. Check the host and port, and that your firewall allows Infograph's address.
A database that has scaled to zero can be slow to wake on the first connect, so try again. If your project uses IP Allow, add 51.222.152.247.
The username or password was not accepted.
Check the role and password in the string. Characters such as @, # or / must be percent-encoded, so @ becomes %40. Or enter the details separately instead.
Those credentials were not accepted.
Check the role and password in the string. Copy the string from Connect again rather than typing the details.
That database does not exist on this server.
The database name is the part after the last / in the string. Check its spelling and case, for example with \l in psql.
